CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2021!  WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!!

Welcome to Yough Senior High School

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians:

Greetings from Yough Senior High School, home of the Cougars!  On behalf of our teachers and staff, we would like to welcome you!  Our mission is to provide all students with a 21st-century learning experience in a collaborative and supportive environment.  With your help, we can achieve this mission.

Our rigorous curriculum is the foundation that will prepare all of our students for future endeavors.  To do this we offer a variety of academic programs:

Dual credit classes, through Yough Senior High and The University of Pittsburgh, Westmoreland County Community College, and Mt. Aloysius College, let students get a jump start on college for a fraction of the tuition price. These classes, taught by our instructors during the standard school day, qualify for both high school and college credit simultaneously.  The Dual Enrollment Program is open to juniors and seniors, with courses covering a variety of subject areas.

In addition to our Dual Enrollment Program, we offer a number of Advanced Placement classes, and through a partnership with Project Lead The Way, we are proud to offer an engineering course.  Our college and career-ready initiative doesn’t end with college preparedness.  For example, through our partnership with the Central Westmoreland Career & Technology center, students may enroll into industry based technical and certification programs designed to meet the needs of an evolving workforce and develop skills for lifelong learning and living. Several of our students earn certifications and credentials in many areas including welding, construction, transportation/logistics, cosmetology, health and safety, and computer technology - to name a few.

Besides academics, we offer extracurricular programs including the performing arts and interscholastic athletics, competing in the WPIAL.  We also have several clubs, including NHS, Student Council, Yearbook, Art NHS, Chorus, Marching Band, Colorguard, FBLA, CAP/SADD, Spanish and French clubs, Robotics, Prom Committee, YALE, Pride, Student Mentor, Journalism, Strategies, Spirit, Outdoors and Envirothon.  These clubs help meet the interests of all our students and provide opportunities for them to get involved with their school!

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to view their student’s progress and attendance through the Powerschool Parent Portal, linked to our web site.  Attendance is important to the success of our students.  Being connected and involved makes it more likely that they will care about their education now and in the future.

Thank you for taking the time for visiting our web site.  We look forward to working with you this school year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Sutherland, Principal

Mr. Wilkins, Assistant Principal

STUDENT PARKING APPLICATION

We will be accepting student parking applications in August.  In order to obtain a parking tag and be permitted to drive to school, students must complete the application, provide the necessary documents, and submit to a urine drug test at the school.  To download, view, and print the application, please click on this link:     STUDENT PARKING APPLICATION.pdf

We will have application/drug testing sessions in August for students to complete this process before the start of school.  We will be holding drug testing sessions on Monday, August 2nd from 9:00 am to Noon and on Thursday, August 12th from 9:00 am to Noon in the high school office.  If students would like to drive on the first day of school, they are to bring their completed application, driver's license, insurance card, and complete the urine drug test on either of these two days.

Congratulations to Parker Lilliock, who on Saturday, June 12, celebrated his Eagle Scout Court of Honor.

Parker is a member of Troop 1448 out of Monongahela.

In May, 2020, Parker and his fellow scouts, leaders, and friends landscaped the Old Trail Entrance of the West Newton Cemetery to help prevent erosion. He officially passed his Eagle Scout Board of review on February 7, 2021, the highest achievement in Scouting.

Parker will be a senior this coming school year and is the son of Mark and Lori (Yough grad) Leasure.

Also pictured in the photos are his parents, former Yough grad and Eagle Scout John Kerliker, and former Yough grad PA State Representative Eric Davanzo.
